SPICE STYLE - 1998

Spice Girls

The girls looks in 1998 were no longer reminiscent of their trademark styles. Altough while touring, they occasionally played up to their Spice persona.

The general look of the group started to change completely. There were a couple of times again when they dressed alike (White suits for the LA premiere Spiceworld - The Movie) and a couple of their costumes for the tour were similar (velvet catsuits for 2 Become 1 and sequined outfits for Lady Is A Vamp & Say You'll Be There)

The girls no longer dressed as their Spice personas, but occasionaly revisited those looks.

After Geri left the band in May, the girls all seemed to gravitate more towards sleek designer clothes - even Melanie C!

Geri

In 1998, Geri was becoming unhappy with her look and while on tour asked the costume designer to change her Spice Up Your Life outfit. She also toned down her hair and make up and she even left the platform shoes behind! She was mostly seen in t-shirts and pants for photoshoots and TV appearances.

Geri's Main Style:
Clothes: T-shirts and pants
Shoes: Buffallo shoes - no more boots!
Hair: Her hair was a darker red and shorter and eventually the blond streaks disappeared!
Piercings / Tattoos: Her belly button ring
Accessories: Her belly-button ring

Victoria

In 1998, Victoria was mostly seen in suits with her bra peeking through. The Gucchi dress still made appearances though. Her shoes were still heels - but after seeing the other girls in them, she started wearing buffallo shoes too! Her most look-changing thing in 1998 though was her dramatic short hairdo which took away her trademark bob.

Victoria's Main Style:
Clothes: Suits
Shoes: High Heels / Buffalo boots
Hair: Short cut with wispy bits
Piercings / Tattoos: None!
Accessories: Her engagment ring!

Emma

In 1998, Emma definately sexed-up her look. Gone were the pigtails and baby-doll dresses. She started wearing 3 quarter pants, her hair was cut in a sexier do and though her pigtails still made the occasional appearance on tour, her baby Spice look was coming to a close.

Emma's Main Style:
Clothes: 3 quarter pants and tshirts.
Shoes: Big boots!
Hair: Sexier do
Piercings / Tattoos: Ears only.
Accessories: None!

Melanie C

In 1998, Melanie C was usually seen in tank tops and designer pants. She took to wearing hats and while on tour her hair was in a ponytail with dark blue or red in the tips. Her tracksuits were gone, although the football shirts made the occasional appearance. At the end of 1998 Melanie started wearing a longer and fuller hair do - and was starting to dress more feminine.

Melanie C's Main Style:
Clothes: Tank top and designer pants
Shoes: Nike trainers
Hair: A few different styles in 1998!
Piercings / Tattoos: New Angel tattoo on her stomach
Accessories: Her nose stud and her gold tooth.

Melanie B

In 1998, Melanie B was most often in a tight shirt and pants. She was still wearing combat boots, but they were shorter. Her hair was also shorter and a bit more tamed. At the end of 1998 she went for a whole new look with long straight hair.

Melanie B's Main Style:
Clothes: Tight shirt and pants
Shoes: Combat boots
Hair: Shorter and more tamed / Long and straight
Piercings / Tattoos: Tounge stud, eyebrow ring and chinese letter tattoo!
Accessories: Her tounge stud. Eyebrow ring and her wedding ring!
