1997 SUMMARY

The year started off in January with the girls celebrating their 1st UK Christmas #1 - "2 Become 1", and going to America to launch themselves over there. February saw the girls celebrate a #1 single in the US, steal the show at the Brit Awards with a great performance and win 2 awards and shoot the videos for "Mama" and "Who Do You Think You Are". March saw the release of "Mama/Who Do You Think You Are" and reached #1 making it the girls 4th consecutive #1 and the girls launched new station Channel 5. April saw the girls launch an official book and video, reach 10,000,000 sales of "Spice" and perform live in the US on Saturday Night Live. In May the girls performed at the Princes Trust Royal Gala and Geri pinched the Royal Behind and the girls went to Cannes to announce plans for Spice - The Movie. June saw the girls start work on Spice - The Movie and Emma break her ankle and wrist. July saw the girls launch a Walkers Crisps ad - which was censored for prime time viewing and reaching #1 in Canada with 2 Become 1. August saw the girls wrap Spiceworld - The Movie and start recording their second album. September saw the girls win an MTV award in America and dedicate their performance to Princess Diana and sign many sponsorship/endorsement deals. October saw the release of the girls 5th single "Spice Up Your Life" which went in at #1 - the girls 5th consecutive #1, head to South Africa to meet Nelson Mendela and Prince Charles and Harry, and perform their first ever live concert in Istanbul, Turkey. November saw the girls win 2 awards at the European MTV music awards, fire their manager Simon Fuller and release their 2nd album "Spiceworld" which entered the charts at #1. December saw the girls win a Billboard award and with guest of honour Prince Charles attended the London premiere of "Spiceworld - The Movie"
