1998 SUMMARY The year started off in January with the girls heading to Austalia and America for the premieres of Spiceworld - The Movie. Victoria also announced her engagement to David Beckham. February saw the girls perform as the Brits and win a special awards and also kick off their World Tour in Dublin. March saw the release of "Stop" which entered the UK charts at #2 and was the first and only Spice single not to go to #1. The girls also signed a deal with Aprillia scooters. April saw the girls' gig @ Madison Square Garden sell out in 12 minutes and their LA gig sell out in 7 minutes!. In May the girls continued their World tour and Geri went awol for a few days before announcing that she'd left the group. June saw the girls perform with Pavarotti and kick off the US leg of their tour. July saw the release of "Viva Forever" whch scored the girls their 7th #1 single. August saw the girls complete the US leg of the tour - and the announcement or 2 baby Spices on the way with both Mel B and Victoria being pregnant. In September the girls capped of the tour with a sell out show at Wembley stadium. Melanie B became the first Mrs Spice when she married Jimmy Gulzar and she also had her first solo single "I Want You Back" go into the UK singles charts at #1!. October saw the girls win a Disney Channel Award. In November Mel C and Emma accepted 2 awards at the MTV Europe Awards. And December saw the girls get their third consecutive Christmas #1 single with "Goodbye" |
