MEL B APOLOGISES FOR AUSTRALIAN TOUR CANCELLATION
Whilst swanning around the Riviera at this year's 48th Monte Carlo TV Festival, Take 40 Australia - there to interview cast members from hit TV series Desperate Housewives, Lost, and Ugly Betty - ran into a not-so-scary sight - SCARY SPICE, aka. Melanie Brown!

Interestingly enough, despite being a huge star of the US version of 'Dancing With The Stars' earlier this year, and starring in an upcoming TV talent show with Joey Fatone (from N'Sync), Mel B wasn't there to promote her TV appearances, she was in fact there in her new role as an entertainment correspondent for US TV show 'Access Hollywood'!

Mel B was interviewing celebrities like Kim Kardashian, and partying with Prince Albert of Monaco in her new role as reporter, but Take 40 pulled her aside exclusively and flipped the script turning the interviewer, into the interviewee.

Whilst she had a lot to say about her upcoming acting projects, TV projects, fashion range, new album, new husband, new daughter, there was only one thing we wanted to know.... WHY DIDN'T THE SPICE GIRLS TOUR DOWN UNDER IN AUSTRALIA EARLIER THIS YEAR, AS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED?!?!?!?

"Can I just say that our tour started off with one date booked, and then things just escalated and snowballed," she explained. "We never actually set dates - it kinda just rollercoastered. Tickets should never have even gone on sale in some places - I don't know whether they did in Australia or not, but we didn't even know that."

"We should've come to Australia - that's a shame that we didn't," she concedes, before adding, "I will - I'll come and visit you guys when I release my next album."

Not quite the same Mel, but we'll think about forgiving you! Brown is currently recording her second solo album in the States, and hopes the project will be released sometime later this year.

MELANIE B DENIES MANDELA RUMOURS
Melanie B had denied the rumours that the Spice Girls were to reform to take the stage at Nelson Mandela's upcoming 90th birthday celebrations.

The singer said that the group were "big fans" of the former South African president, but claimed they have no plans to perform together again in the foreseeable future

Commenting on a possible performance from the Spice Girls, Mel B told the BBC: "I don't think we are. I did hear about that and we're all big fans of Nelson Mandela but I don't think we're going to be doing that.

"I know we all have a lot of stuff going on. I know that I'm here working probably until the end of the year. But I know I don't have a break. But he's a great guy. I can't believe he's 90."

She added: "I'm not quite sure if we have been asked. But I know that we're not going to be performing together at all for quite some time right now."

Talking about her personal music plans, the popstar said that she was in the middle of a new solo album, revealing that she had already written seven songs for the LP.

SPICE GIRLS TO AUSTRALIA : IT'S NOT YOU IT'S US
Speaking backstage before their performance at Madison Square Garden this week, three members of the British pop group told why they decided against bringing girl power to our shores for the first time.

Melanie Chisholm, aka Sporty Spice, said they were disappointed. "We were really excited about that part of the tour. We had never toured Australia before. We literally ran out of time and we know that probably isn't good enough," she told a correspondent, in comments given exclusively to SiT.

"You would have to be crazy not to want to go to Australia. We would have loved to have gone. It just didn't work out this time."

Emma Bunton, aka Baby Spice, said the group had to go where the demand was: "It was huge in the UK and the US. You know we love you lots."

Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham blamed the kids. "We're mothers. That's our priority at the end of the day." The group announced three weeks ago that they were cutting several countries from the original tour schedule.

The decision angered some fans, who vented their frustration via online petitions and Facebook groups, including one called "The Spice Girls ditched Australia, so I'm ditching the Spice Girls".

The Spice Girls released a statment today via their official site declaring that the tour will end in Toronto on February 26, meaning the planned shows for Sydney, Buenos Aires, Asia & South Africa will not go ahead. The Return Of The Spice Girls Tour
Huge Global Demand For Spice Girls Exceeds Original Expectations

"If you see the show and don’t love every single second, check your pulse please because you might actually be dead."Daily Mirror – December 2007

When the Spice Girls reunited for the first time as a 5 piece in 9 years last June announcing The Return Of The Spice Girls tour, no-one was quite sure how the world would respond. Certainly no-one could have predicted just how phenomenal the demand was eventually going to be. Within days over 1 million people in the UK alone had registered for tickets as well as 3 million people in the US. The Spice Girls are in huge global demand and since reforming they have received literally thousands of requests and offers to play in almost every country in the world.

When tickets went on sale for the first UK show at The O2 Arena they sold out in a record breaking 38 seconds. It was clear this was going to be no ordinary tour. Within days the girls extended their 02 run to an incredible 17 shows. If it hadn’t been for other tour commitments they could have continued to add dates. Spice fever was well and truly back.

The Return Of The Spice Girls tour finally kicked off to global critical acclaim in Vancouver on the 2nd of December 2007 and this stage of the tour will finally come to an end on February 26th in Toronto. Within that time the girls will have performed shows in the US, UK and Europe to well over half a million fans. The icons of girl power are still at the top of their game. The girls have been stunning audiences with their high-energy performances and have brought back some much needed fun, excitement and glamour to the music world.

In the US the LA Daily News reported, “They may just be better than ever on this tour,” and that the tour “wasn’t a comeback at all, it was an upgrade”. The San Francisco Chronicle wrote, “The Spice Girls is the reunion that matters this year. Spice Girls prove they have staying power”. In the UK the Independent On Sunday commented, “Brassier, bolder and better than ever. This was a spectacular show.” The News Of The World claimed, “Those girls are STILL amazing on stage. What a show – everything all the mad fans could hope for after ten long years of waiting.”

Sadly the tour needs to come to an end by the end of February due to family and personal commitments for Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria. It was announced in June that, as well as the Europe and the US, the girls planned to visit Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina. Due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the UK and the US along with the touring logistics for such a massive production it was not possible to fit everything in. As the girls return to normal family life and the kids go back to school they are reviewing all the options, who knows what the future might bring!

The girls said: “We’ve had such an amazing time over the last 3 months. It’s been incredible being back together and seeing our fans again. We want to thank everyone who came to see us. It was all so mad the first time round, so we’ve really been able to appreciate it properly this time. There have been so many highlights and good times that we know it will be hard to be apart after Toronto. Really sorry if we didn’t get to see you this time round. We all have other commitments in our lives now but who knows what will happen next.”
